The eight-hole C recorder whistle is a whistle recorder hybrid made from light aluminium tubing, with a wider bore than the standard C whistle. It has a top left hand thumb hole and four finger holes for the right hand, like a recorder. Fingering is similar to a baroque recorder, using cross-fingering for both F natural and F sharp etc. The wider bore gives it a slightly more fluty and more powerful sound than the standard C whistle. It plays over two octaves and can be pushed for some third octave notes.
This recorder whistle may suit recorder players who like to achieve the more open and powerful sound of a whistle, with stronger bottom notes (compared to a typical tapered-bore recorder), and those who need a whistle which can produce cross-fingered semitones, for easier playing in various keys.
In the second octave the notes from C up to A can be played with the thumb hole closed, as well as pinched in the typical recorder technique. Note that middle C and D can be easily played with a strong tone having the fingers down (overblowing) as well as the traditional recorder fingerings with just two or one top finger down in the first register.
Die acht-löchrige Sopran-C Blockflöten-Whistle ist ein Whistle-Blockflöten-Mischling, aus leichtem Alurohr gefertigt und mit einem größeren Innendurchmesser als die Standard-C Whistle. Sie hat ein linkes Daumenloch und vier Löcher für die rechte Hand, wie eine Blockflöte. Die Griffweise ist den Barockblockflöten sehr ähnlich, mit Gabelgriffen für F und Fis, usw. Das breitere Rohr bewirkt einen kräftigeren Klang. Diese Whistle kann man gut über zwei Oktaven spielen, und einige Töne in der dritten Oktaven können auch erreicht werden.
Diese Blockflöten-Whistle ist für Blockflötenspieler gut geeignet, die sich den offeneren und kräftigeren Klang einer Whistle wünschen, mit kräftigen tiefen Tönen (verglichen mit typischen konisch gebohrten Blockflöten). Sie eignet sich aber auch für Musiker, die sich eine Whistle wünschen, die sich (nahezu) chromatisch in vielen Tonarten spielen lässt.
Die Töne in der zweiten Oktave, von C bis A, können sowohl mit geschlossenem wie auch mit gekniffenem Daumenloch gespielt werden. Das mittlere C und D kann in zweierlei Weise gespielt werden, im oberen Bereich wie bei einer Blockflöte, als auch einfach durch Überblasen der tieferen Oktave mit den gleichen Griffen, wie man es vom Whistlespielen kennt.
